To say 2018 has been an amazing year would be an understatement. Some pretty BIG things happened in my personal life as well as in my ministry, most of which has been shared through this blog or on my Facebook page.

Here are the top-posts of 2018, as decided by you, my friends and family.

5. But That’s the Way We’ve Always Done it… Said Jesus Never - Living in unity with one another means that we love one another just as Christ loves us, even if they don’t do things the way we’ve always done them.

4. The Bible is NOT a Weapon - For the Word Made Flesh to be weaponized means we are attempting the realign Christ with those who not only had him crucified but also with those who maintain power today through threats of violence and marginalization.

3. The Underwhelming ‘Meh’ of Easter - The ending of The Gospel of Mark does not fit the new life, new hope feeling we enjoy each year as we use Easter to signal the return of new life in spring. On a  day when we expect to feel the overwhelming presence of the risen Christ, the ending of Mark’s Gospel is entirely underwhelming.

2. Love The Sinner Hate The Sin… Said Jesus Never - I love you but I don’t like this or understand it so you need to stop it. I love them but they need to _________. Love the sinner hate the sin provides us with what we think is a shield to protect ourselves from what view as sin, but this half truth places our self-righteousness on full display.

1. The Bible Says It, I Believe It, That Settles It... Said Jesus Never - The Bible says a lot of things. It is a collection of books telling the story of the people of God. It is a book of covenant, heartache, promise, lament, renew, and hope. But “The Bible says it, I believe it, and that settles it,” creates a problem.

Well, you liked things Jesus never said, and to be honest it was the most fun I had preaching this past year.

What does 2019 hold? Time will only tell, but you can be sure it will include more posts about my kids on Facebook, sermons focused solely on the grace of G-d, and graduation (again) from Wesley Theological Seminary. You can keep up with all these exciting things by ‘Liking’ my Facebook Page and by also subscribing to ‘Brewing Theology’ on iTunes, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts.
